The Winery

Rosenvale Wines is a family-owned business that markets the wine made from grapes grown by the Rosenzweig Family Vineyards in the Barossa Valley. With 40 years of experience in the wine industry, the family owns and manages over 200 acres of vineyard land in the Barossa area. The Rosenzweig Family Vineyards are a Quality Assured grape-growing company that specialises in the production of super premium fruit. The majority of the fruit produced is sold to other winemakers, but the family retains a small amount of selected fruit to produce their very personal ‘Rosenvale Wines’.

The portfolio includes Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Chardonnay and Semillon. Rosenvale Wines is situated in the beautiful Barossa Valley, surrounded by vineyards with a view of the Barossa ranges.

History of Rosenvale wines

The Rosenvale Vineyards story begins in the province of Prussia in 1850 when Gottfried and Johanna Rosenzweig immigrated to Australia fleeing a life of poverty, finally purchasing a farm in the small Barossa village of Moculta in 1858.

The Rosenzweigs brought to the Barossa a deep attachment and love of the land. Some four generations later, while working in and around the wine industry, their first dedicated vineyard was purchased in 1966, a 54-acre property in Bethany, 22 kilometres from the family’s original mixed farm in Moculta. Today, James Rosenzweig, the great, great grandson of Gottfried manages the day-to-day operations of Rosenvale, supported by his wife, Sahar, along with a team of dedicated staff.

Through hard work and commitment, the family expanded the vineyard holding to over 200 acres over four properties from the central to northern regions of the Barossa with the oldest vines planted in 1935. These vineyards are managed under a Quality Assured Wine Grape Growing program.

Rosenvale’s “The Crossings Vineyard” in Nuriootpa is where the Estate vineyard operation is based as well as the winery and Cellar Door building. Highway 1 and Stockwell Farm are in the northern end of the Barossa Valley.

These Quality Assured vineyards have different soil types and micro climates along with a new vine planting program that sets us apart. We employ best practice in sustainable viticulture and winemaking with the vision that our vineyards and brand, Rosenvale, will be around for generations to come. Most of the grapes produced are sold to other wine producers while the family retains a selection of the fruit toproduce their very personal Rosenvale Wine label, the first vintage being 1999.

Winemaking for us is all about nurturing the grapes through their natural cycle into wine. The winemakers use minimal interference during ferment to bring out the essence of the vineyard. Oak barrel maturation is carried out to compliment a wine as required. Then, when satisfied we have done our best, the wine is bottled under DIAM cork or screw cap. Barrels and pallets are then stored in temperature-controlled cellars.

Our new winery will have open top vats for fermenting and the basket press will keep some of the traditional winemaking activities alive and have an important part in our wines.
